it's good to be writing again
Sep. 5th, 2018 10:06 pmI've noticed that my fandom experience is a circular one. I started in the Forgotten Realms fandom back when I was 13; it was my introduction to fanfiction. After that, I moved to Avatar: The Last Airbender, where I learned more about ship-wars (as a spectator, thankfully) and large fandoms and the sheer volume of content they can produce. The I got into the Young Justice fandom, which is how I learned how writing memes on livejournal worked. Then I got into BBC!Sherlock, less for the fic and more for the meta and acafandom stuff. I graduated college, got a job, and stopped focusing on fandom for a while.
Then, my dad died, and cycled back 'round to Forgotten Realms out of a need for nostalgia.
Earlier this year, I went back and reread all of my favorite ATLA fics.
And right now, I'm currently working through a massive quantity of YJ fic.
...I don't like the direction this is going.
(On the other hand, getting back into meta might be the kick I need to finally write that "crackpot theories of the Vaasa annexation" story that's been sitting on the backburner for three years.)
